You have decided to burn a candle or candles for a certain situation in which you want to petition your Guardian Angels, the Saints and Higher Powers that be to sway the outcome to your desire. Whether it is for love, money or something else, it is your power of intent that will be a crucial and key ingredient to the success of your candle burning ritual.

Lighting a candle, no matter what the situation, will be all for naught if you are not focused and emotionally attached to the situation. Sometimes you might feel the need to light a candle for your mate, girlfriend or a child’s situation in order to do the work for them, but it is important that you have some sort of connection with the one needing assistance from the Universe.

After cleaning your candle, applying the oil and gripping the candle in your hands for a time to pray, meditate and charge your candle is an important step in a candle burning ritual. It is when you sit with candle in hands, focusing on what you want the outcome to be, that you are energizing and putting yout intent into the ritual. You may want to practice a technique of visualization, where you can see in your mind’s eye, exactly how things will play out and what the eventual outcome will be. This technique is used in many different settings, such as coaching a football team to victory or in a business where the Boss wants a certain outcome. It is also something that is used when creating postitive signs and vision boards. Like any skill, practice is the key element to being comfortable with using visualization. Here are some basic ideas you can use to charging your candle for your next ritual.

When sitting with your candle in your hands, close your eyes and see the outcome you desire like watching a movie in your head. Use pictures in your mind to visualize. For example, if you are trying bring in money for a new home, see the new home in your mind. See yourself in the bank with a stack of money and signing the mortgage papers. See your family’s happy faces when they are unpacking the moving van. See how beautiful your new home is to you.

Now take it one step further. Hear the laughing voices of the family as they squeal with delight at their new home. Hear the birds singing in your trees. Smell the flowers blooming in your yard of your new home. Now imagine how comfortable your new home will make you feel; how safe and secure. Once you see the home in your mind’s eye, add the other senses as you apply them, one by one, until the whole picture is in place.

Let’s take another situation. You want to manifest a lover or maybe even bring in a little romance to a current relationship. See them standing in front of you, wanting you, desiring you. Visualize every detail of them – what kind of clothes they are wearing, their hair and eyes, their facial features. Do they have brown hair or blue eyes? Do they have a certain specific article of clothing that they wear?

Now heighten the experience by smelling their natural body scent or their favorite cologne. Now taste their lips on yours, maybe with a hint of peppermint gum or strawberry lip gloss. Further, hear you lover speak romantic words to you. Hear the affection and desire in their voice. Hear them speak your name. Remember all of this and use all of your senses to visualize and charge you candle before lighting it.

Some key points to remember for successful visualization and candle charging:

* It is important that you visualize the outcome – not the journey. You know that obtaining the money for your new home will take a lot of work and saving money instead of spending it, but don’t put those images in your mind when you are creating the picture. Visualize only the end result – you standing in front of your new home. If you focus on the struggle or the time involved to get the money, it will be longer for you and your candle will not be coreectly charged for the ultimate in successful outcomes.

* Do not visualize your gain at the expense of someone else. Do not imagine a relative passing away in order to obtain money for your new home. You do not want that negative image in association with your new home. You do not want to gain money for your home by surviving a terrible accident and having litigation as a result of it or having a loved one pass on. Two Rules to Follow when Extinguishing Candles from Your Candle Spell

1. When you are completely done or finished with your candle spell and you do not need to work the spell any longer, you may blow your candle out. Do not reuse the candle. Toss in garbage.

2. If you need to extinguish your candle spell (because of leaving the home, for one), use a candle snuffer or wet your fingers with saliva and “pinch it out” (meaning to quickly move thumb and index finger towards wick and using the saliva, snuff the flame). This candle can now be re-lit for your candle magic when you return without any further anointing or dressing of the candle.

What do you do with the burnt out candle & the glass of water after a St. Expedite spell & my candle glass was black after the candle burnt does that mean it will not work??

Maria,

Just because the candle glass was black does not mean it was an indication of a candle ‘not working’. Again, we will first cover the physical steps as to why candles turn black.

1. Did you clean the candle – the wax, the wick and the glass (inside and out) with lemon juice or Florida Water? Residual packing substances can cause sooting and sometimes shifty candle shop owners apply a thin film of oil on the candle itself to try to induce candle blackening – this way you are all upset and com back to buy more candles. Sneaky, isn’t it. Fortunately, these types of people are few.

2. How much condition oil did you place in the top of the candle? Remember, it is not like laundry detergent (“Well…if one cup will get them white, then SURELY two cups will get them even whiter.”) Uh-huh. Use the recommended mystic numbers like 3,7,9,11, and 13 – and no more!

Now that we have covered the probable PHYSICAL cause of candle blackening, lets move to the spiritual side.

1. Is your cause Justified (with a capital letter). This means, are you right to wish this on someone, or in the case of a St. Expedite candle, which is burned for ‘things in a hurry’, are you deserving and justified and right to receive them and will you do the ‘right thing’ with them when you DO receive them? Things that probably will NOT get answered from St. Expedite are quick money to go to the casino, bad boyfriends (or girlfriends) and wishing someone ill will. So again I ask, was your petition paper made out for true and genuine causes and were they Just in the eyes of the Universe?

2. Just because the candle turned black does not mean it was working. If the candle was properly prepared, the cause is Justified, then the sooting or blackening of your candle during your spell means that the reason for your candle and you are under a heavy negative influence. I suggest the next time you begin a candle burn and it starts to turn black, support that candle with a white one lit (after being properly cleaned) next to the original one to ‘bring light’ and additional energy to it. Try that and see what happens.

3. If candles turning black seems to be a common occurrence, you might try doing a spiritual cleaning of the home, room or area of the candle burn to get rid of any negative energy.

Disposing of candle and offering remnants to St. Expedite is easy - glass in the recycling bin, water in the plant outside your door, wine or other spirits in the grass and pound cake for the birds.

Ideas for Keeping your Home Fire Safe During Candle Burning Spells

There has been many questions posed to me lately about fire safety from clients who are fearful of torching their home when burning candles. I live with such a person, but I myself have had over 20 candles for clients burning all at the same time and (get this!) I have left town for business purposes and left the candle burning! I have never had any problems with candles once I learned the proper way of setting lights safely. Before I learned, I had quite an experience!

Very early on in my candle burning days, I lit a Seven African Powers candle and sat it on a glass table with wooden legs that was on hardwood flooring. I left the house a couple of hours later for a party nearby. We dined and were sitting around the backyard conversing in the oncoming twilight when all of a sudden, I got an overwhelming urge to go home. I was panicky, and I left my then spouse and children at the party to drive the short distance home. When I arrived, the candle glass had cracked and the liquid wax had ran across the glass table top and was dripping onto the hard wood floor. Fortunately, flames had not followed the trail of liquid wax, but this taught me a lesson that I had to be more careful.

So this blog post will show with pictures the various ways to protect your home from fire when leaving candles burning for your candle spell. It is considered better to leave the candles burning as constant energy that is being applied to your petition or cause, but with kids, the cat, frilly curtains, fears and petition papers being present in your environment as well, these photos should give you a good idea on how to protect your home and loved ones.

There are some tradition metal candle holders that you drop the glass candle in. Here is one example of a votive holder but my Puerto Rican madrina had some crudely fashioned tall metal candle holders for the 7 day novena type candle in glass that we commonly use for candle spell work.

Then there are Pyrex pie plates, like I use when burning a bunch of candles together. These are relatively inexpensive at your neighborhood Wally World and since the glass has been tempered for use in the oven, you can bet that it can hold temperatures of at least 450 degrees with ease.

Other methods of safe candle spell burning are shown in these photos below. We have the candle sitting in a jelly jar with water, a candle on one of those thick candle ‘plates’ from Pier 1 or Cost Plus Imports, a candle on a clear glass plate I picked up from the dollar store and for those who are truly fearful of fire, a triple protected candle with the candle in the jelly jar of water, in a bowl, on a plate. Even kitty won’t tumble that one!

I have a question: I burned my glass enclosed green candle as far down as I can. I can not light it anymore as the lighter won’t reach that far. How do I dispose of this candle?

I am going to surmise that one of two things were happening to your candle; either you kept putting it out every day or it went out upon initial lighting and you kept re-lighting it.

First, we will rule out any physical problems that the candle might have. If the wick did not ‘float’ over to the side of the candle glass, the liquid wax pool did not ‘drown’ the flame, too much oil was placed in the candle, or there was no sudden blast of wind, then we can rule out tangible facts that led to the candle going out.

If the candle went out on its’ own, then the spell is done. If you were extinguishing the flame with a candle snuffer, only to relight the candle when you return, this is fine for continued candle burning.

If you were using your breath and blowing the candle out, then the candle burn or candle spell is DONE. Why? Because your ‘essence’ or ‘ache’ (spirit) was ‘mingled’ with the wax or was ‘introduced’ to the candle wax and flame, and in essence, your ‘spirit’ willed it to be ‘out’. To continue to burn a candle specially prepared for candle spell magic after blowing said candle out is fruitless; magic will not happen anymore.

The same DOES NOT hold true for the scented candles we burn for fragrance use only (Yankee Candle and the like) The intention of these types of candles if for scent or fragrance only – so no harm blowing these outwith your breath.

In regards to disposal, I place all glass candles in the recycling - unless used with free standing jumbo tapers for the same intention. Do not mix intentions and change out the pull out candles for different conditions. Keep money drawing together, reversible together, etc.

Candle Spell Candle Preparation Step By Step for Candleburning Success!

Today, I am going to go over step-by-step the proper method of cleaning a candle for a candle spell. Recently, I was preparing a candle for a client and encountered a few items that I may not have covered in previous posts regarding candle preparation. Here is the steps, with photos, to ensure candle spell success!

First step is to clean the candle with Florida Water. You my also want to use Lemon Juice, or even a combination of using one first, such as the lemon juice (to ‘Cut and Clear’ out any negative vibes), then follow it with Florida Water (to bring in the ‘Good Spirits’).

The traditional Florida Water known by most is made by Lanman and Kemp, but I picked this bottle up at our neighborhood ethnic foods store. It is made by Goya Products, which is a large manufacturer of products and foods for Caribbean cultures. Make sure to clean both inside the candle (inner glass area, wax top and wick) and also the outside glass area.

As I was cleaning, I found something embedded in the wax from the factory where they were produced. I took a small, sharp pointed knife and cut out the offending stuff. This would be a good time to trim the wick to two inches.

Wipe down your candle again, you can NEVER be too clean. Another thought is this, you do not know if the owner of the Botanica or Candle Shop where you purchased these candle might be pre-blessing/anointing these candle to PURPOSELY not bring success to you, so that you will return over and over to purchase candles that have been ‘tuned’ to fail! There has been more than one unscrupulous shopowner out there in the world!

Now, it is time to anoint the candle with the appropriate condition oil. We are doing a “Road Opener” candle spell for our client, so the candle color matches the Road Opener Oil that we are using.

You can see my table, with petition papers, photographs, my box of condition and anointing oils, various tools and shipping boxes to mail candles to clients who want to burn their candles themselves.

Now it is time to evenly distribute the oil over the top of the candle, pray over it and infuse it with intention and then attach the cleints photo to the front of their candle. This candle will then go on my All Saints Altar, when I have candle going for clients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!

There you have it! Step by Step instructions on how to properly clean, anoint, bless and create a candle for candle spell burning success!

Another reader wants to know about disposal of candle wax and spell remnants…

Just would like to know. I know some spells require that you dispose your work by burying far away or near your door step or throwing in running water. I live in a building not a house how would I do that? Also, if a spell calls for you to write the other womans’ name on a candle and you do not know the person name what do you write? Please shed some light on this for me.

If you want something to come back to you or come to you, you bury it near your home - unless it is his underwear, and that you place UNDER your mattress. The theory here is that whatever you are doing as a candle spell, then those remnants of wax, burnt ashes of petition papers, incense or herbs and sachet powders, will be the ‘attracting’ scent, er or ‘magnet’ to your door.

This goes for fast luck, more business, steady business, lover come back or here, kitty kitty spells. Now, if you do not have a source of dirt (like a planter bed or grass) near your door, then get a terra cotta pot, pour in a couple of inches of dirt, place items there, cover with more dirt or potting soil and get a live plant, silk or artificial bush or just some rocks over the dirt (to keep kitty from using the potty there) and leave as close to your front door or porch as possible.

Now, if you want to get rid of something, throw it into moving water, like a river or fast moving creek. Don’t throw it into a pond, as your eyes will always gravitate to the spot when you drive by in the future. If you are trying to damn someone up, take it to the cemetery and leave it at a grave site, along with a small bottle (half pint) of whiskey and a cigar. Maybe some candy or gum. If it is to punish or get someone thrown in jail, go leave it at a policeman’s or war veteran’s grave. they will do justice work for you.

Your second question is about carving a name in a candle and what to do if you do not know their name. You can carve (or write on a petition paper and pin with pins into wax) any identifying description and/or DNA you have. Some examples: “that b***h that stole my man” (to the point!), or “the blonde up the street”, or “Debbie, the grocery clerk with brown hair at Piggly Wiggly”; you get the picture. Now, let’s say he comes home with lipstick on his collar (or somewhere else), cut the offending lipstick out of the clothing (yes, ruin the shirt you gave him) and either pin it to a piece of white paper with the words, “The woman who was wearing this lipstick who was with him last night” or something like that. You can also use her hair that she left on his coat collar, headrest in the car, or a mysterious telephone number that was scribbled on a matchbook.
