I have been told to do a banishing spell with a black candle. I purchased a Yankee candle which is as near to black as I could get, it is supposed to burn for 6.5 days approx. I lit it just over 48 hours ago. It burned well until last night. It has started to soot, send puffs of smoke and the flame keeps dancing sometimes so low like it’s gonna go out. Up until last night it had burned all the wax, but then gas started to leave a ring of deposit around the edge of the jar. Before lighting it, I inscribed the name of the spirit I want to banish, into the top of the candle with a metal sterile hypodermic needle (I’m a nurse!). I have left the candle burning constantly but feel very uncomfortable with leaving it on 24hrs a day. Am I doing something wrong or is the spirit not wanting to leave?

Hi Kate, I am going to answer your question in a minute but first I would like to use your letter as an example of what to do and not to do. This is in no way any means to offend or embarrass you, but it is a prime example of someone who is doing candle work without fully being informed about things.

Before I start, let me lead into this blog post with a conversation I had about 4 months or so with a major manufacturer of spiritual supplies. I had forwarded to them a couple of e-mails that I had received asking me on how to use THEIR Candle Spell Kit, of which I had never used. I told them that I did not feel qualified to further explain the instructions in the package, but perhaps this was a friendly “heads up” to rewrite the copy for the everyday Jack or Jill to read. They responded that they get the same thing – they had recently gotten a call (no less!) from someone who bought “Chango Powder” and wanted to know how to use it. They told the caller to call the place they bought it at and the answer was that the place was no longer in business (maybe the caller had the product for some time before attempting to use it?).

So you can see that spiritual workers and readers get questions about other spiritual workers spells all the time. We cannot always determine what was the other spiritual worker thinking when they prescribed that candle or magical practice, but we do our best. It is best ,dear readers, to go back to the person that prescribed the candle spell for clarification and questions.

Now to your candle…

Let me say this three times (old African story telling method of driving the message home)

This may not just be because of the Spirit you are talking about is hanging around. Black Candle Spells of any nature or for any reason is for cursing, damnation, revenge, reversing, D.U.M.E., take this you little %$(%$#), or any other type of candle spell where the outcome isn’t going to be good for the person. The atmosphere is FUNKY, DEPRESSING and just plain YUUUUCK!

Now, ironically, I am wondering why this other spiritual worker suggested a black candle. Most traditions use a white candle to tell the Spirit to “follow the Light” (like the movie ‘Poltergeist’). Some Spirits are trapped in the building (like if it was a tragic death) or if the Spirit doesn’t ‘know’ that the body is dead, and they are waiting for it to ‘come back’ so that they can re-enter the body. Some Spirits are young, so therefore you will have mischief in the building, and some Spirit are just plain a**ed pi**ed off because they didn’t get to live out their life. In my spiritual tradition, I would have used a white candle with some Healing or Blessing Condition Oil to soothe the anger and depression and ask the Spirit to move on (go home, go to Heaven, etc.). I am not an expert on Spirits per se (like a Ghost Buster) but I work with them once in awhile. The thought here is to Bless the  Spirit, Forgive the Spirit and Ask the Spirit to move on to a better place. That is why a white candle is used.

I would ask you what is ‘near to black’ as I usually see Yankee candles in black during Halloween with a licorice scent. So, for sake of article, we will call it a black candle. In my work, I tell clients and also leave candles burning 24 hours because it is truly a constant reminder (prayer, petition) of the work that is going on for you. Your candle burned all the way down and you should take the candle glass back to the spiritual worker (if you can) and ask for the divination. You provided no photos for us to look at and if I could take a shot at candle divination.

If you still feel a presence around the home, then maybe you can determine the black candle spell is not for you. I would then prescribe Blessed Salt, Holy Water, Chinese Wash, Epsom Salt Baths and few other things to start cleaning out the house – spiritually – so that you would achieve peace. We have all been ‘there’. I call then “Whammy” Months (or weeks, or whatever). This is when the washer breaks, the check gets lost in the mail, when the cars’ brakes go out and whatever else that comes down that rains on your household. This is not the ‘normal’ things – it is a flood of constant one after the other incidents that gets you so preturbed that you just KNOW something is up. Most likely, you have been ‘crossed’ or ‘crossed up’. This can be done in various ways, either by placing a powder for you to step in, someone ‘lifting’ your shoe print to use, or by placing your name in a jar with various substances and burning candles on your name. Ironically, there are some people whose power is so strong, they only have to look at you ‘wrong’ and things go haywire.

PERSONAL STORY: I have a girlfriend that I would freelance work in her flower shop and I would admire her jewelry – after all, is it from Afghanistan and the gold from the Middle East is of a different quality than ours. She would always say to me after I would praise her personal effects, “Jackie, look at your nails!” WHAAAT? Well, in Afghani tradition, if you desire something, you mark that person or item with bad luck and to ‘dissolve’ this envious eye (‘evil eye’ or ‘malochio’), the person making the exclamation is to look at their nails until the desire goes away. Then all ‘evil eye’ has been eliminated.

An individual’s  crossed condition has been blamed by many as the source of their bad luck. The belief is that when things go from “bad to worse”, then someone has ‘crossed you up’. This appears like a stumbling block that has been placed in your path, keeping you from your friends, money, success, love, and good luck. Sometimes just burning a candle is not enough. It is when it seems that enemies, jealous neighbors and family and evil persons who do wrong have used something to change all of your good luck to bad luck. Sometimes, you can actually physically feel the weight of the work being done to you. When your intuition tells you that something is ‘up’, you are probably right and you should use the following uncrossing candle burning spell  to remove a crossed condition.

INGREDIENTS:

1 7- day glass white candle or a glass “Uncrossing” Candle or a glass “Jinx Removing” Candle

1 Double Strength “Uncrossing” or “Jinx Removing” Bath Crystals

1 T. Saltpeter (can get at a pharmacy)

1 bottle Oil of Rosemary (can be obtained at health food stores in beauty section)

1 bottle of “Uncrossing” or “Jinx Removing” Condition Oil

1 Packet John the Conqueror Incense

1 Packet Church Charcoal (get at Botanica or Spiritual Supply) WARNING: DO NOT use barbecue briquettes

Put two tablespoons of the “Uncrossing” or “Jinx Removing” Bath salts in the tub with one tablespoonful of SALTPETER ( if obtained) into your bath water while the water is running, make your wish to remove all envy, jealously and evil from you and repeat the Psalm 11, which reads:

In the Lord put I my trust; how say ye to my soul. Flee as a bird in your mountain?

For lo, to the wicked bend their bow, they make their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart.

After your bath, anoint the palms of your hands and the bottoms of your feet with “Uncrossing” or “Jinx Removing” Condition Oil.

First and always first, clean the candle properly by using the steps located in the blog post in the “Proper Candle Preparation” in the “Categories” section to the right of this blog post.  Let dry.

Then, on a piece of parchment paper write your name 9 times and place it under the “Uncrossing” or “Jinx Removing” Candle.

Place a bowl of water in which you have put 3 drops of Rosemary Oil next to the “Uncrossing” or “Jinx Removing” Candle.

Light candle and let it burn continuously until the crossed condition is removed, burning more than one candle after another until things have eased up. When you go to light the second and subsequent candles, try to use a broom straw and ‘transfer the light’ from the first or the currently lit candle to the unlit candle’s wick. This makes a ‘perpetual light’ that has not been blown out or gone out on its’ own. Like any other candle burning magic spell, do not blow this candle out; it will signify that you are done with doing the spell. If candle goes out before it has finished burning, start over from the beginning, as you have not done the spell properly or your intended victim ‘knows’ that you are attempting to ‘ward him off’ and is working against you stronger than before.

Each morning during this candle spell, burn the John the Conqueror Incense on a church charcoal (not barbecue briquette) and ream Psalm 69 to cast out any evil  before leaving your home to do your business.

I was wondering what color of candle would be appropriate to light when I go on Jan 26 to do a test for dispatch operator for the police dept. and what kind of spell/oils you recommend and how soon should I start on the ritual and if the moon is in a good phase. I am also going to test this month for California life insurance agent should I use the same spell you recommend? Thank you so much. How much are your jumbo reversible candles? First, let me say congratulations on the job opportunity and your decisiveness to have an exciting and fulfilling career. You go, girl!

I would use the Crown of Success products or Crown of Glory products to bathe in, anoint with, and burn before your examination – along with some good coffee and hours hitting the books. Since time is short, you may have to do a little “wiggling and squiggling” to get your oils and such, but here is a basic “shopping list” of items to use:

(NOTE: You may use these same three candles for both potential employment situations)

1 White Glass 7 -Day Novena Candle – your full name an birth date on piece of white paper placed under this candle.

1 Yellow Glass 7-day Novena Candle – name of agency and job title on piece of white paper under this candle.

1 Red Glass 7-day Novena Candle – petition of power for achievement of goal to gain selection in this position on white piece of paper under candle.

“Crown of Success” or “Crown of Glory” Anointing Oil, Bath Crystals and Sachet Powder – to use on in candles, on body and petition papers.

HOWEVER…

if you CANNOT find these products in town, then substitute with:

For Bath Crystals: Mix Epsom Salt and Kosher Salt with Grains of Paradise (aka Guinea Pepper), Master Root (or Masterwort) (will be hard to find) and a Buckeye to carry in your pocket. My might try a Health Foods Store for these herbs.

If these things cannot be found, take lots of Epsom Salts (WalMart or Walgreens) soaks followed by a soaping and showering off negative residue.

For Candles: In the event you cannot find “Crown of Success” or “Crowning Glory” products, take some Olive Oil in a small saucer and extend your hands over it and pray to blessing and infuse your intentions into the oil. Use this oil in your candles. Remember to clean your candles following the instructions on candle cleaning in my “Proper Candle Preparation” column on the right.

For Sachet Powder: Since time is short, you may have to forgo this product.

P.S. Walgreen’s ALWAYS has red, yellow and white candles, as so some of your area supermarkets in the Latino or Hispanic Foods section. For the half green/half black and the half white/half black free standing candles – we are all hurting because the factory where these are coming out of is relocating and didn’t make enough back stock to keep us in candles. I was just talking with someone about this just yesterday! I am actually in negotiations with a candle maker who may be supplying me with a line very soon. I will keep all of you posted on the outcomes since we are in quality control right now – can’t sell faulty stuff!
